Pediatric Innovator Awards

Two New Awards for 2014

Boston Children’s is pleased to introduce two new annual awards that will honor innovators who are making an impact in pediatric health care:

  • The Lifetime Impact Award will recognize a clinician or researcher who has devoted their career to accelerating innovation in pediatric medicine.
  • The Rising Star Award will highlight an emerging innovator whose work has caused or is leading to a breakthrough in pediatric medicine.

Boston Children’s Hospital Lifetime Impact Award

Description

The annual Boston Children’s Hospital Lifetime Impact Award has been created to provide national and international recognition to a clinician, researcher or businessperson who has made extraordinary and sustained leadership contributions throughout their career to improve health care in the field of pediatrics. The award recipient will receive global recognition of their achievement, an opportunity for remarks at the awards ceremony, and a commemorative plaque.

Criteria

  • Nominees shall have delivered or developed practice-changing innovations or discoveries that significantly impact pediatric care, defined as care provided to patients under the age of 21.
  • Nominees shall provide a living example that the study of science, medicine and technology can
  • enable or has the potential to enable extended, healthy, productive life.
  • Nominee shall display a set of ethical values consistent with Boston Children’s Hospital and those values that guide the enterprise.
  • Nominee shall be 45 years of age or older by July 31, 2014.
  • This prize cannot be made to a person who received another award sponsored by Boston Children’s Hospital for the same accomplishment within the past decade.
  • Awardee must be able to receive the award in person at the Taking on Tomorrow: Global Pediatric Innovation Summit + Awards 2014, on the afternoon of Friday, October 31st at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston. Travel expenses shall be paid by Boston Children’s Hospital.

Nomination Process and Deadlines

This is a peer nominated award. Nominations must be received by September 12, 2014 through the Boston Children’s Hospital Taking on Tomorrow website, where nominations will be reviewed by a panel of judges. Recipient will be notified of selection by September 22, 2014.

Awards Ceremony

Recipient of the Lifetime Impact Award will be recognized at the awards luncheon on Friday afternoon, October 31, 2014, at the Seaport World Trade Center. The Lifetime Impact Award recipient will have the opportunity to provide brief remarks following the award presentation.

Boston Children’s Hospital Rising Star Award

Description

The annual Boston Children’s Hospital Rising Star Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of an up-and-coming innovator or team of innovators in the field of pediatric health care. Innovators may include basic scientists, researchers, clinicians, informaticists or businesspeople. The award recipient will receive global recognition of their achievement, $25,000 to be used to advance the work for which they are recognized, an opportunity for remarks at the awards ceremony, and a commemorative plaque.

Criteria

  • Nominees shall have accomplished an outstanding achievement in healthcare of unusual merit and independence of thought and originality that significantly impacts pediatric care, defined as care provided to patients under the age of 21.
  • Nominee shall not have passed his or her 45th birthday by July 31, 2014.
  • Nominee shall be actively engaged in the line of work for which the award is made.
  • This prize cannot be made to a person who received another award or grant sponsored by Boston Children’s Hospital for the same accomplishment.
  • Awardee must be able to receive the award in person at the Taking on Tomorrow: Global
  • Pediatric Innovation Summit + Awards 2014, on the afternoon of Friday, October 31st at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston. Travel expenses shall be paid by Boston Children’s Hospital.
